Hi, my name is Clolita!

We are all on our own remarkable journey!  Whether it includes work, retirement, children, grandchildren, heartbreak, tremendous love, huge successes, or crushing defeats, it is a journey unique to each of us.  It informs and shapes us into what we are and continues to mold us into what we are to be.  Each experience is just another stitch in the fabulous quilt that tells the story of our lives.  Through this blog, I invite you to share my journey past, present and looking to the future.  It began more than sixty years ago and continues to amaze and delight me.  I hope that we can share experiences, perhaps share advice, and enrich our lives through our common and sometimes not so common experiences.  This blog has posts in different categories as you can see. Here is a brief description of what you will find in each one.  Join me as I continue the journey, reflect on the past and enjoy the moment.

“Discovering Me! Discovering You!”

Travel Maasai Mara 5.0

In this category, I think it is important for you to know something about me such as who I am, what has been my journey and how I made the decision to start this blog. I want to share the journey I have traveled so far and how I came to be the me that I know and love today. I find it extremely exciting and invigorating to meet other women and learn their stories. This section will share the stories of our lives – not just mine. It is not that I think my life’s story has been so different than millions of other women out there but it may be just different enough that someone will read it and find comfort or inspiration in the “sameness” or just see it as inspiration to look at your own journey and how you became the wonderful you that you are today. I hope that other women want to share their stories as well.

Each day is a new opportunity to learn something new. It can be a new word, a new recipe, a new language – every day in every way we are learning. Maybe we are coping with the loss of a job or a loved one, dealing with a serious illness, helping our children or something that impacts the way our lives used to be and is now forcing us to learn to make the most of our lives as they are in our new reality. Maybe we have entered a new phase of life like retirement, parenthood, returning to school to pursue another degree, taking a dance class or swim lessons. Every day in every way we can learn and embrace something new. Together we can keep learning!

“Retirement – Hopes! Dreams! The Bucket List”

Clolita-Pretty Boy Dam 4-09.5

The “Bucket List” is a term that I never really liked. It seemed to connote a list of items one needed to hurry and do before one leaves this life. I think we start a bucket list of sorts from the day we start making plans for our lives. Some of those hopes, dreams, and wishes are not realized for various reasons. Some we regret while others we just table until the day comes when we will have more time. Let’s talk about some of those hopes, wishes, and dreams – when we first thought of them, what we did or did not do about them, or what we are doing about them now, and how we keep adding to the list for I truly believe that we stay excited not by seeing the list grow shorter but by seeing the list keep growing so that we can keep reaching.

“Impacting Others Along The Way”

I had a friend say to me the other day “I don’t know what my legacy will be – how I will be remembered when I am gone?” Most of us wonder about the same thing. Why are we put here on this earth? What is the meaning of my life? Some people leave a legacy that will live for the ages like presidents, popes, corporate leaders, etc. It is not just about the grand feats of architectural triumph, or performing staggering feats of medical wonder in the operating room, or being captured in the press for various and sundry reasons that will remain for all times on the internet and revealed when your name is searched. It is all in how you interact with and have an impact on the people around you.  Your legacy can be found in the impact you achieved by reaching out to one person and impacting that person’s life for the better. Your legacy can be in how you influenced the generation that follows you. I would like to share some of my experiences in mentoring and reaching out to others and how it comes back to you in ways you never would have dreamed of thereby enriching your own life as well. I would like to hear of ways you have done so as well and by sharing those experiences we continue to enrich each other’s lives and inspire others to do the same.

“Experiencing the World – Near and Far”

For as long as I can remember, even as a small child, I wanted to travel. I got excited when I heard people speaking different languages or saw people wearing different clothing. The scents and sounds of different cultures and the amazing people embodying those cultures and beliefs that seem to be so different than my own but in reality – are more similar than we care to admit – it all drove in me a hunger to be a part of the larger world outside of my own neighborhood. It did not matter whether it was local, as in other communities in my own state, or other states within the U.S. or even other countries around the globe. The travel bug bit me hard early and often. In this section, I want to share my love of travel by taking you on some of the trips and adventures that I have had as well as share some things I have learned about traveling in general whether it is on a budget, traveling solo, traveling with a companion, traveling around the world or just viewing the world from my own backyard. I have not traveled as much as I would like to but I certainly intend to continue doing so every chance I get. Travel awakens so many of our senses and refreshes our view of the world. We realize where we fit in this world and how fortunate we truly are to experience it. I love not only my own experiences but also hearing about the experiences of others and hope that those reading this blog will share their experiences as well.
